Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship enables you to undertake the necessary training associated with obtaining your qualification (a Certificate IV in Aeroskills), whilst working for a trusted employer within the Aviation Maintenance Industry. Accordingly, over the course of the program, you will gain both experience and confidence by means of your participation within an active working environment.
Furthermore, this work-component is not merely a simulation, as you will be paid a wage for your labour, based on the National Training Wage Award. |
What role does QIAE play?
QIAE is a registered training provider, and it is here that you will complete the “study” component of your apprenticeship. In addition to your scheduled theoretical and technical subjects, you will receive from QIAE invaluable lessons in adaptability, problem solving, independent thinking, responsibility, leadership, communication and teamwork.
Types of Apprenticeships
You may choose to undertake either a full-time or a part-time apprenticeship. Full-time apprentices work and train on
full-time basis, usually from 36 to 38 hours a week, whereas part-time apprentices work and train for no less than 15 hours each week (averaged over a four week cycle).

Funding
The Australian Government has recently recognised the growing need to address the significant skill shortages apparent within the contemporary workforce. Therefore, they have instituted a number of financial incentives for apprentices, including accommodation allowances and apprenticeship trade bonuses. Depending upon your circumstances, you may also be eligible to receive a reimbursement for your training costs. For more information, please visit the Australian Government Apprenticeships website, or ask Centrelink for information on the Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY.

Getting Started
In order to enter into an apprenticeship, you must first engage an employer (either a business within the aviation industry or a group training organisation who will place you with various businesses to gain on-the-job experience). Regardless of which you choose, your employer is responsible for the payment of your wages.
Once you have secured an employer, you can discuss with them your desire to nominate QIAE as your training provider. Once you have selected your training provider, your employer is then responsible for registering you with the Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) and assisting you in lodging a training contract with them.
Prior to the end of your probationary period with your employer (typically 90 days in duration) QIAE will assist you both in the development of your training plan. This plan identifies what is expected of you and your employer, and will help to ensure you learn and can competently demonstrate all the necessary skills you require in order to be awarded your qualification.
QIAE will also supply you with a training record book, (Log of Industrial Experience & Achievement) in which you are to document your acquisition of skills.
The maintenance of this record will be your responsibility.
Why select QIAE as your training organisation?
All three trade schemes belonging to the Certificate IV in Aeroskills course delivered at QIAE are accredited by the Queensland Government. Furthermore, the course and it associated subjects align with the National Aeroskills Competency Standards and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) syllabus for Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME). What’s more, QIAE’s Founder and Managing Director, Tank Macpherson was a co-writer in the National Training Curriculum that is now used by all Aviation Maintenance Schools, Airlines and the Defence Forces, so you know you’re in safe hands.
