QUEENSLAND INSTITUTE FOR AVIATION ENGINEERING

Institutional Pathways

For those contemplating prevocational study, QIAE’s Certificate IV in Aeroskills institutional pathway constitutes an established inroad into the Aviation Industry for individuals seeking to become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME), and with additional training, a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME).

The institutional pathway program offered by QIAE enables its students to first complete the theory component of their training in one year as a full-time student before commencing their apprenticeship with an employer as a second-year apprentice.

Upon completion of this course, QIAE will secure, for each student, a place with a highly-regarded, prospective employer within the Aviation Maintenance Industry, for a period of full-time, unpaid work experience. This period is an exciting prospect for many students, as it allows them to observe and effectively partake in the operation of a real maintenance facility. Potentially, this placement may also assist students in embarking upon the next stage of their training by means of facilitating their obtainment of an apprenticeship.

Significantly, all three trade schemes belonging to the Certificate IV in Aeroskills, institutional pathway course delivered at QIAE are accredited by the Queensland Government. Furthermore, the course and it associated subjects align with the National Aeroskills Competency Standards and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) syllabus for Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME).

What is the program’s exact duration?

Depending upon which Aeroskills courses you select, the Cert IV program varies in length from 38 to 42 weeks.

What advantages does the Institutional Pathway confer?

Once you have completed the theory component of a Cert IV in either Avionics, Mechanical or Structures, you possess the relevant skills and knowledge that make you useful within your selected field. Possessing these means you are rendered infinitely more attractive to prospective employers.
