School Based Training

By means of undertaking a Certificate II in Aeroskills school based traineeship at QIAE, you may, upon the completion of your year twelve studies, obtain a Nationally Recognised Qualification in addition to your senior certificate! What’s more, you will be paid for the time that you devote to working with your employer.

What is a Certificate II in Aeroskills School Based Traineeship?

The Certificate II in Aeroskills school-based traineeship is a two year, part-time program that students may embark upon at the commencement of year eleven. Accredited by the Queensland Government, it provide's trainees with a fundamental understanding of the Aeroskills trade, in addition to firmly establishing them on the pathway to becoming a fully-qualified tradesperson, by offering them the opportunity of pursuing further studies in Aeroskills after they finish school.

What role does QIAE play?

QIAE is a Supervised Registered Training Provider (SRTO), and it is here that you will complete the “study” component of the traineeship.

What do I need to do?

In order to enter into a school-based traineeship here, you must first engage an employer (someone within the aviation industry) and secondly, gain the support of both your parents/guardians and school. The former will need to authorise your traineeship by signing a training contract with your employer on your behalf, so start discussing your interest in aviation engineering with them now!

It is also imperative that you negotiate an "Education, Training and Employment Schedule (ETES)" with QIAE, your employer, school and your parents or guardians. See the brochure for further details on this step.

How many days will I have to work?

Ideally, you will be working one to two days a week and attending school for the remaining days. However, depending on the nature of your traineeship and the needs of your employer, you may be required to work for blocks of time (a series of weeks). Regardless of your arrangement, you must work for a minimum of 48 days in a 12 month period.

Consider, while your classmates are still contemplating what it is they wish to “do” beyond school, you’ll be well on your way to an entirely satisfying, lucrative and exciting career in aviation engineering by studying at QIAE!
